1. 1x per month, check that your AC filter is clean and dry.  This can save you hundreds of dollars and keep your AC unit functioning properly.
2. Keep a few AC filters on hand.  If needed, a replacement is quick and easy and filters are typically inexpensive.
3. 1x per month, check that your AC’s condensate drain line is dripping water.  This is important during summer months when your AC unit is removing condensation while lowering the humidity levels in your home.
4. 1x per month, pour a cup of white distilled vinegar into your AC’s condensate drain line.  This will keep the condensate drain line clean and water flowing.  Ask your HVAC Pro to show you how it’s done.
5. When replacing your HVAC system, DO NOT OVERSIZE the unit.
6. An oversized HVAC unit will not properly remove humidity and it will cause problems.
7. Before replacing your HVAC, request quotes from (2) HVAC Pros.
8. Compare quotes as well as the number of tons suggested by each HVAC Pro.
9. Require that your HVAC Pro includes “energy sheets or calculations” to prove that your HVAC is sized properly.
10. If possible, make sure that your HVAC unit is located inside of a conditioned space.  Like a closet or mechanical room.
11. Remind your HVAC Pro to use “foil tape” and “duct mastic” to seal all ductwork connections.
12. Ask for a written warranty for your new system and any repairs.
13. A 2-zone system works great.  This allows (1) HVAC unit to more accurately control the temperature in different areas of your home.  Like the master bedroom or a 2nd floor playroom.
