Appliance Repair Tips
- Call at least 2 appliance repair pros and get an over the phone guesstimate prior to scheduling an appointment.
- To maintain a safe and proper functioning dryer, disconnect and clean your dryer vent pipe 2x per year. Or you can hire a company that specializes in dryer vent cleaning. This is especially true if your dryer is vented upwards thru the roof. It will prevent fires and keep your dryer functioning properly.
- Ask your appliance service professional about a warranty on work performed.
- Check that your range or stove is properly secured to the floor. The manufacturer’s anti-tip device must be installed per installation guidelines. This will ensure that it doesn’t tip over when you open the oven door.
- Make sure that your appliances are level. Adjust the legs so that your appliance is as close to level as possible. This will ensure that your appliance functions properly.
- Check that your dryer is properly vented to the exterior. Make sure that your dryer’s vent pipe is properly sealed and does not vent into your living space. Recheck every few months.
- Check that your range exhaust hood is properly connected to the vent pipe above and is vented to the exterior. Also, check that the exhaust hood is the proper distance from the surface of your range. Refer to the manufacturer’s installation guidelines.
- When installing a water supply line to a dishwasher, washing machine, ice maker or refrigerator, use a stainless steel metal braided water supply line with threaded ends. This will greatly reduce leaks and water damage. It’s worth the extra cost.
- When installing a dishwasher, check that the installer properly attaches it to the countertop above or to the frame of the adjacent side cabinets. This will prevent future issues and allow it to open and close properly.
- After connecting a water supply line, check for leaks. 24 and 48 hours afterwards. A slow drip can be catastrophic.
- Create a maintenance schedule and clean under and around all appliances to ensure proper function.
- Appliances are not manufactured to last. Proper installation and maintenance are more important than ever.
